After a 73-year-old man was reportedly battered to death in Philadelphia with a traffic cone, a 14-year-old child has reportedly been charged with third-degree murder.

According to Fox29 Philadelphia, the youngster, named as Richard Jones, is being prosecuted as an adult and is also charged with criminal conspiracy in connection with the death of James Lambert on June 24.

Police claim that Jones struck Lambert with a traffic cone first, and the station said that they had identified a female suspect who was seen striking Lambert at least three times in the attack’s CCTV tape.

Fox News Digital contacted the Philadelphia Police Department for comment on Wednesday, but they did not answer right away.

For their suspected involvement in the beating, Jones and his 10-year-old brother handed themselves into the Philadelphia Police Department’s homicide squad on Monday.

According to Fox29 Philadelphia, police allegedly discharged the younger brother without filing any charges.

Police have revealed disturbing security video of the incident, which shows a gang of adolescents chasing the man along a street in northwest Philadelphia before hitting him with traffic cones just before three in the morning.

While others pursued the victim down the street, one of the young suspects seemed to record the assault on a cell phone.

Lambert was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries the next day.  

“I just don’t understand what’s going on in our city,” Tania Stephens, Lambert’s niece, told Fox 29 Philadelphia. “He’s walked that path for 60, 70 years of his life, and for his life to be snuffed out like that, is just unbelievable.” 

For information that results in the arrest and conviction of each defendant, a $20,000 reward has been given.

Five further criminals, described by the Philadelphia Police Department as two Black males and three Black females in their early to mid-teens, are still at large.
